Elections and such 16 October 2004
Well, here we are in October of an election year. Now I don't know about you, but I am getting a little disgusted with the rhetoric of politicians. Now, we all have our favorites, but as I listen to each, I reflect back over the past 40 plus years I have been voting. I can't seem to recall a single promise that has been kept by any President. Now some have initiated some of their promises, but it is still up to Congress to make things happen and they won't do anything unless there is something in it for them. It would seem to me that the best we can do is elect a President who is more likely to veto a bill rather than vote for a President who we think will follow through on a promise. Line item veto would do wonders for our deficit. Now I support Bush and will be the first in line to support his policies on terrorism and Home Land Security. He is a good Christian and should be allow to complete the job he started. On the other hand, Kerry scares the heck out of me. As a Vietnam vet, I did not appreciate his actions when he returned from Vietnam. If he could not make a good decision then how can he make one now? He wants to give the middle income and lower income groups a tax break. He doesn't have a clue what middle income or lower income is. Maybe he gets his views from his maid or butler. We have all read the e-mails and listened to the television for months now. Whoever gets elected will have some impact on this old man. Good or Bad. But at least I will vote for my candidate and if he doesn't win, then I have a right to fuss and complain about the winner. (Of course, I can complain about the one I vote for also).
Now if I were to address the good old boy syndrome in Washington D. C. I would think we as intelligent people would be willing to elect good honest folks to represent us. Wait, you say an honest man wouldn't run. Probably, because he is that poor slob who is middle income and can't afford to run. We look a the politics in Mexico and think how corrupt it is. But if we stood on the outside of the US and looked at our on politicians in Congress, we would think that Mexican politics was open and honest. At least the crooks don't white wash their greed. If a bill could go through Congress without every Tom, Dick and Harry adding a rider to it, we wouldn't have this huge deficit and all our taxes would be lower. Of course, we wouldn't be employing folks to study the silvery minnow or the spotted owl. (maybe private companies would start picking up the tab for their own research or whatever they waste money on).
Additionally, since Florida can't get their act together, we will probably have to wait on them again to see who is elected. No hanging chad, but they do seem unhappy with the touch screens. Colorado is trying to change how they spend their electoral votes and the democrats want to register the illegal aliens so they can vote. If this is a view of the future, then elections will no longer be run by a democracy, but by special interest.
God Bless America, pray that we have good leadership to straighten out this mess. Now with all that out of my mind, maybe I can get a good nights sleep. Life is good.
